Win over Morocco was a big achievement for Bahrain – Yusuf Khailfa

Manama, Bahrain, July 19, 2019 – Bahrain prevailed against Morocco in a tight five-set match (25-14, 23-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-12) in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship.

Bahrain coach Yusuf Khalifa: “This is a big achievement for Bahrain. We are really happy. Morocco, their generation of players, this is the second time they are playing at this level so they have more experience than our players. They have a good team, and we can say that we enjoyed this five-set match very much.

“This is our target, for the love of volleyball. Not only for the good of Bahrain, but for volleyball. We are working hard to develop volleyball in Bahrain, not just to get results.”

Bahrain captain Mahmood Abdulhusain: “We feel a little tired now, we have been working very hard, but we are happy because we achieved our goal of qualifying to the next round.

“We made some mistakes because we were a little nervous. In the fifth set, we concentrated on our weaknesses and our mistakes and that really helped us win.”

Morocco coach Khalid Berma: “Sometimes we were good and sometimes we had no concentration, but overall we played well. We were better than yesterday. Congratulations to Team Bahrain. I am happy with my players. For this match, the players took the next step for having a good mentality. They played in front of a big crowd and they did well.”

Morocco captain Oussama Elazhari: “This is our second match and I think our whole team played well. We played together, but luck wasn't with us today, it was with Bahrain today.”
