Jan Svoboda: “We played better in attack”

Manama, Bahrain, July 19, 2019 – The Czech Republic utilised their attack advantage to beat Tunisia 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-21) and record their first win in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship.

Czech Republic coach Jan Svoboda: “I am satisfied with our performance. It was not an easy match. It was very close during the game, especially in the third set when it went 10-10, but we finished it well and we played better in attack, and that is why we won.

“I think our team has progressed well from yesterday to today but tomorrow against Iran it will be a very difficult match. Iran are probably the favourites of this group and if we want to win, we must play better.”

Czech Republic captain Ondrej Piskacek: “It looks like an easy match but the truth is that it was difficult. Tunisia played very well on service especially on float service so we had problems receiving. I also think we started a little bit nervous but in the end of the sets we played with good defence and blocking. I think that was the key in winning the match.

Tunisia coach Basdouri Amine: “Even though we lost, we had a better performance today than against Iran in our first match. The players were very much pressured in that game but today with the Czech Republic they were better.”

Tunisia player Ala Hammami
: “In the first match our performance was bad but today we were better. Our pool is very difficult and we will try to give a better performance against Russia (tomorrow).”
