Gavio: “We played our best volleyball today”

Manama, Bahrain, July 23, 2019 – Brazil beat Russia 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22), to pick up two wins in Pool E of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship on Tuesday at Isa Sport City.

Brazil coach Giovane Gavio: “We played our best volleyball today.

“Russia is a strong team. I am very happy because we were able to play against a big team quite well.”

Brazil player Angellus Costa Da Silva: “It was an awesome match. Russia was very difficult to play against, in both block and attack. Their opposite (#12 Sapozhkov) is very tall. We served well to break off their reception.”

Russia coach Andrey Nozdrin: “Today, we didn’t have good reception. I don’t know why but we must understand this immediately and start our preparation for the next match. Today’s match is history for us. Tomorrow’s match against China is very important so we can have our chance at the semi-finals.”

Russia player Pavel Tetyukhin: “I feel bad, it was an important match. We played really bad today, and Brazil played well. We played so dirty, we made a lot of mistakes, a lot of bad serves. “I think tomorrow, we will fight and play better. I hope so.”
