Esfandiar: “We showed our heart in getting this win”

Manama, Bahrain, July 18, 2019 – Iran showed a lot of determination to come up with a strong start in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship, as they defeated Tunisia 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-19) on Thursday.

Iran coach Ataei Nouri Behrouz: “We tried to have good service and good blocking, and we controlled the match. These three things were very important for us to win.

“We want to think of our games one by one. Every match we must win. We know we are a powerful and strong team, and we have a long way to reach our target. But now we must go one by one as this is a very difficult tournament.”

Iran captain Amirhossein Esfandiar
: “We anticipated to play well in this match. All our players performed well today and I think together we showed our heart in getting this win.

“It was very important for us to win this first match and have a good start. We think we will be better in our next games. Today our first match was in the morning which is quite difficult, but our next two matches are in the afternoon so that will be better for us.”

Tunisia coach Basdouri Amine: “From the start, we knew that Iran are a tough team. There is a very big gap technically between their team and ours.

“We hope to continue getting better in each match. We cannot compare ourselves against the other teams in our group. It is difficult to qualify for the second round, but in these three matches we will try to give a good effort.”
