Chen Leiyang: “We need to continue doing our best”

Manama, Bahrain, July 19, 2019 – China earned their second win in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship, following their straight-set (25-23, 25-22, 25-23) victory over Puerto Rico on Friday.

China coach Liu Hao: “Today’s match was tough. They did very well with their blocks and we were forced to make many mistakes. It was not easy to win the match and their team had a strong performance.

“Although we qualified for the next round, the Bahrain match is still a very big game for us. They are a strong team. We expect a tough game and we will be ready. We will try our best.”

China captain Chen Leiyang: “We are very happy to be in the second round, but we need to continue doing our best and not think about the other teams.

“Against Bahrain tomorrow, we will do our best to try and win the game just like how we have done in our first two matches. All our opponents so far have been strong, all with good abilities, but we have been lucky to win our games.”

Puerto Rico coach Francisco Negron: “My team had a great performance today despite the loss. Compared to the way we played yesterday, we played great today. I’m really proud of the boys. Yesterday we didn’t play volleyball but today we came to fight against a really strong team in China.

“We’re going to give our best effort in our game tomorrow. We’re going to try to win some sets and hopefully win the match.”

Puerto Rico captain Pedro Molina: “We played better than yesterday. We are going to keep playing better every time – that’s the goal for now. We face Morocco next and we haven’t seen them play yet but we are going to study them now and be as ready as we can for tomorrow.”
