Brazil captain Resley: “We came in for the kill”

Manama, Bahrain, July 19, 2019 – Brazil bagged their second win in Pool D of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship, taking 3-0 (25-25, 25-19, 25-13) against Canada on Friday evening at Bahrain’s Isa Sport City.

Brazil coach Giovane Gavio: “Today, we made minimal errors and at times, we served quite well. This is good for us because tomorrow, we have an important match against Italy.

“We feel quite good about Victor’s (#9) performance yesterday and today, we played well. We are in a good moment but we have to stay calm to take the next step against Italy. We will go one step at a time.”

Brazil captain Rhendrick Resley Rosa: “Every match is a challenge. Today we may have played a little bit more relaxed because we’ve done the very first match already. We executed everything that we have planned previously.

“We came to play this match in a very decisive manner because this match could potentially classify us already. We came in for the kill. We didn’t really start in the best situations but towards the third set, we had it all figured out and we played a lot better.”

Canada coach Joao Paulo Bravo: “Even if we gave that much errors, I think the guys were able to play a little bit better. Yesterday, they were too tense during their first game. But today, facing Brazil, they were still struggling alright, but they improved a bit more. I am happy about the fact that we can still grow in this competition. We know Brazil is such a strong team, and we took our chances.”

Canada captain Mathias Elser: “The biggest thing we could learn from a team like Brazil lies in the little plays that we don’t get to practise too much. There were scramble plays that they were able to convert back into their system and play out of those. For us, there were quite some balls that once it’s not perfect within our system then we struggle with that.”
