Abaev: We wanted to win quick and show good volleyball

Manama, Bahrain, July 20, 2019 – Russia kept their undefeated run, following their 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-15) win over Tunisia in Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship on Saturday.

Russia coach Andrey Nozdrin
: “This was an important match for us. We had to make sure we play 100 per cent in this match. The day after tomorrow, we will be facing very strong opponents.

“The players of Tunisia are very good and their receivers are good. We had a little problem with our blocking and dealing with fast balls.”

Russia captain Konstantin Abaev
: “We wanted to win quick and show good volleyball, but today it was not always perfect. We had a lot of mistakes in service. Team Tunisia was a really hard opponent. If they were in another pool, maybe they can go to the second round, but we were put in a really strong pool. They have good floats, good defence and blocking, and they play well. I am happy we won 3-0 and it was really good for us.”

Tunisia coach Amine Basdouri: “In the second and third matches, we have improved. I think we can do even better in our next games. This group was very tough with Iran, Russia and the Czech Republic. They are all very tough teams.

“Hopefully when we go to the next round, with teams that are at our level, we can be better and better.”

Tunisia captain Ala Hammami
: “It was a bit difficult today. We improved in our second match. But Russia, who were second in the previous U19 World Championship, are a difficult team. We played as best as we can and we accept the result.”
